The story of The Community’s Foundation is, at its heart, a story about caring for neighbors.
While the foundation itself traces its origins to 1985, its roots reach back even further. In 1910, Dr. Horace Furness Taylor and his wife, Katherine, established a community hospital in Ridley Park, beginning a legacy of service that continues today. Over the decades, that commitment evolved from providing healthcare to stewarding charitable resources, supporting students, strengthening nonprofit organizations, and investing in initiatives that improve quality of life throughout Delaware County.
For more than four decades, The Community’s Foundation has adapted alongside the community it serves while remaining grounded in a simple idea: charitable resources should be used to improve lives.
A Timeline of Growth and Impact:
Three interconnected stories shaped today’s organization: the Hospital, the Hospice, and the Foundation.
1910 | Taylor Hospital Opens
Hospital
Dr. Horace Furness Taylor and his wife, Katherine, established a community hospital in Ridley Park, beginning a tradition of care and service that would influence the community for generations.
1985 | Taylor Hospital Foundation Established
Foundation
Taylor Hospital Foundation was created to support healthcare initiatives and steward charitable resources for the benefit of the community.
1987 | Taylor Hospice Emerges
Hospice
Taylor Hospice provided compassionate care and support for patients and families facing serious illnesses in patients’ homes, long-term care facilities, and hospital settings.
1997 | Taylor Hospital Sold
Hospital | Foundation
Following the sale of Taylor Hospital to Crozer-Keystone Health System, charitable assets were preserved for community benefit. This pivotal transition transformed healthcare resources into a long-term investment in scholarships, grants, and programs that would serve future generations.
During this transition, the foundation evolved through several name changes:
- 1997: Taylor Health Foundation
- 1998: Taylor Community Health Alliance
- 2000: Taylor Community Foundation
2000 | Taylor Community Foundation Is Formed
Foundation
The new name reflected its evolution into a community-focused philanthropic organization.
Taylor Community Foundation continued to operate Taylor Hospice while expanding its charitable mission.
2001 | Taylor Hospice Residence Opens
Hospice
Building on its existing hospice program, Taylor Community Foundation expanded end-of-life care services with the opening of the Taylor Hospice Residence, providing an additional setting of care for patients and families.
2001 | Health Professions Scholarship Program Launches
Foundation
Building on its healthcare roots, the foundation established the Health Professions Scholarship Program to support local students pursuing careers in nursing, medicine, and allied health professions.
Today, the program remains one of the organization’s signature initiatives and recently celebrated its 25th year.
2010 | Fiscal Sponsorship Program Introduced
Foundation
The foundation launched its first fiscal sponsorship relationship, helping community groups access nonprofit infrastructure and administrative support while focusing on their mission.
2017 | Merger Expands Community Reach
Foundation
The merger with the Delaware County Community Foundation expanded the organization’s reach beyond the original Taylor Hospital service area to communities throughout Delaware County, strengthening its ability to serve donors, nonprofits, students, and residents countywide.
2018 | Taylor Hospice Sold
Hospice
After years of providing compassionate end-of-life care, Taylor Hospice was sold, marking the end of the organization’s direct healthcare operations.
2018 | Becoming The Community’s Foundation (TCF)
Foundation
Following the sale of Taylor Hospice, Taylor Community Foundation adopted a new name: The Community’s Foundation (TCF). The new identity reflected the organization’s evolution into a countywide philanthropic partner dedicated to improving quality of life throughout Delaware County.

Today, TCF carries that mission forward by partnering with donors, nonprofits, students, and community leaders to create lasting impact throughout Delaware County.

- Supporting Students
TCF awards and administers scholarships that help students pursue higher education, career training, and health profession careers. From the Health Professions Scholarship Program to donor-created scholarship funds, these investments help expand opportunities for future generations.
- Strengthening Nonprofits
Through grants and nonprofit funds, TCF helps organizations build capacity, expand programs, and respond to community needs. These resources support organizations working in areas such as health, education, youth development, and human services.
- Helping Donors Make a Difference
TCF works with individuals, families, and organizations to establish charitable funds that reflect their values and philanthropic goals. These include donor-advised funds, field-of-interest funds, agency funds, scholarship funds, and legacy gifts.
- Empowering Community-Led Solutions
Through fiscal sponsorship, giving circles, and community advised funds, TCF provides the structure and support that allows community members to turn ideas into action and create lasting change.
